barry Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 Greetings, I don't know who the players are - I rec'd the soundfile from someone who didn't know either - It is a 30 minute track on which a piano trio play Yesterdays, My Old Flame and a slowish blues - there are several rubato piano solo moments - it's pno/bs/ds. I can get file out in some form - it is currently on a yousendit link, but if what I've written sounds even vaguely familiar to anyone, please let me know. Thanks, Barry Quote
barry Posted January 30, 2009 Author Report Posted January 30, 2009 I think it's Tete Montoliu on the basis of comparisons with his known versions of these tunes. Quote
Shawn Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 Can you post the link to the file? Quote

JSngry Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 what kind of player do you need to play a .m4a file? It plays on iTunes. And Quick Time. It's an Apple format to the best of my knowledge. Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Don't know who it is.....but I'm moments away from scanning in the last of a 4.5 gig batch of old photos and transferring to DVD and I'm going to use this as the soundtrack if I can figure out how to merge it in with Roxio. Perfect timing, Barry! Quote
EKE BBB Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 (edited) Yes, it's Tete with Eric Peter on bass and Peer Wyboris on drums. The disc is called "Lliure Jazz" ("Free Jazz" in Catalan), originally recorded for Discophon and reissued on CD by Discmedi. See my Tete Montoliu Chronology: http://www.jazzdiscography.com/Artists/Mon...u/tete-disc.htm Best regards, Agustín Edited January 31, 2009 by EKE BBB Quote

See my Tete Montoliu Chronology: http://www.jazzdiscography.com/Artists/Mon...u/tete-disc.htm Best regards, Agustín There's a curious story behind that disc. Tete, Peer and Eric were scheduled to record a disc of Catalonian folksongs and Joan Manuel Serrat originals (which was finally called "Tete Montoliu Interpreta a Serrat"), but at the end of the evening, neither Eric nor Peer had arrived due to their engagement with another group at the Whisky Jazz club in Madrid. So Tete locked himself at the studio (Estudios Celada, Alcorcón, small town near Madrid) and played, almost without interruption, the first eight tracks. When Peer and Eric arrived, well passed midnight, they finished the disc with two traditional Catalonian songs. As they had time enough at the studio, they went into this ad lib improvisation that ended up as one of the most "out" (if that is possible with the always straight-ahead Tete) discs of his career. Shrdlu Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 Switch Sound File Converter (what a name, lol), a free download, will convert the annoying m4a into mp3. ( My version of Winamp has m4a as the default for ripping, and it got me for awhile, but I later managed to negotiate its user-unfriendly menus and set the ripping format to mp3. I noticed the problem when I emailed some tracks to a DJ at a radio station and he said that they couldn't play m4a.) Quote
