Due to an Ebay incident, I ended up with a rather large record collection. Instead of complaining I’ve decided to relish the joy of a new found hobby (okay, so the hobby found me) but that’s not the point.

The point is to celebrate such a large unknown music collection! Everyday I am pulling a random record from the pile and listening to it, no matter how bloody awful it gets. I will listen to the album from start to finish and then blog about it. It’ll be my thirty minutes of daily musical devotion.

From the start of side A to the end of side B there will be music, noise, broken needles, superior listens and painful listens along with one large xml file. Spinning for 365 days a year till I get through… I’ve finally found a way to kick Blog-365’s ass!

It looks like this guy bought a collection of Goodwill's Perennial Favorites, but it also appears that this is music that is perhaps largely unfamiliar to him, at leasr not deeply familiar.

Nothing at all "heavy", just kinda funny to think about somebody ending up with all this..."stuff" by (apparently) accident and then deciding to actually listen to it all.

That's one brave dude...as someone that has browsed many a Goodwill store, I must admit that I wouldn't have the stomach for it.

The thing that amazes me about those Goodwill collections...is that I think there's a nefarious plot to spread the gospel of Al Hirt. Maybe he's the anti-Christ?

Wacky... but interesting in the sheer randomness of the "collection". Album #39 (Woody Herman live at Monterey on Atlantic) reminds me of the time I found that LP in some similar (cheapo) circumstances, the LP being probably 25 years old at that point, and the thing was absolutely DEAD mint. Puzzlingly (?) mint. I didn't even want to handle it. I mean, just letting Nigel Tufnel look at this record would have caused some noticeable wear. Why am I bringing this up, you might ask? I have no real idea.

I have just started to skim thrift stores' inventory, at the suggestion of a fellow member of this board who has reportedly found great things at them. The pickings have been slim, but occasionally there is an amazing jazz gem.

There is a shock of recognition in reviewing what this guy has. Thrift stores everywhere seem to have about the same stuff. I have found that Al Hirt is far from the worst of the common artists there.
