Blu-ray players

Seeing the new Star Trek movie sent me to Amazon in search of the original series on DVD, and I noticed that the new Blu-Ray edition for Season 1 gives you the option of watching the shows with the original 1960s effects, or in Lucas-style updated versions. I think I'd actually prefer the original, cheesy 60's effects...and therefore I may be on the verge of finally converting to Blu-ray. All Blu-ray players play DVDs as well, correct? Any recommendations on affordable brands/models?

We just bought a Sony 350, our first Blu Ray player. I don't know if this was the best choice possible, but we are enjoying it a lot.

Blu Ray discs are pretty much incredible to watch. We have also been quite surprised at how much better our DVDs look on it.

It is worth it.

I have two, both Sonys. One is the former flag ship machine (fantastic picture and phenomenal sound!) the other the BDP-550. I'd recommend a Sony, I've had no problems and they're wonderful machines. Here's the recent models:

I have the Star Trek set, I commented on it in the Star Trek Movie thread. It looks fantastic. I am watching the original, not the "expanded" versions. Incredibly well restored.
