MartyJazz Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I personally have not collected compilation boxes and attach little, if any, monetary value to them. However, because the music is often superb, I understand the interest of the non-collector in acquiring these inexpensive (initially at least) box sets. Anyway to get to the point, a lady friend recently unearthed from a deceased aunt's home a 25 box set (4 vinyl discs per box making a total of 100 LPs) of the "Greatest Jazz Recordings of All Time" issued by the Franklin Mint. 19 of the boxes are still shrink wrapped and the remaining six appear to be hardly played. All the significant innovators and instrumentalists of jazz appear to be represented. Anybody have any idea if there is any market value for this collection? (Didn't see any listing in e-Bay for this.) Quote
medjuck Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I'm really curious as to what's included. I'm not suggesting you list everything but are there any surprises? Are the obvious numbers there? Quote

(Didn't see any listing in e-Bay for this.) Well, I see that there is a current eBay listing with an listing price of $150 but no bids so far (this is listed as a cassette version and for local pickup only, so I suspect not going to do so well). Over on AAJ, they seemed to settle around $400 most of the time, but that was 5 years ago, so pre-Recession. It would probably go for somewhere in the $200-500 range unless you can interest a Japanese buyer... Quote
