Guy Berger Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 When I first got this it disappointed me - as is typical for ECM these days, tempos tend to be divided between slow and very slow, with one or two token up-tempo tunes. But it's grown on me a lot after about a week. Very nice playing by Rava, Mark Turner, Stefano Bollani, and Larry Grenadier. Paul Motian is a little too restrained but that's typical for ECM recordings. I'm not sure I'd endorse all the 60s Miles comparisons but... the comparison is not way off. If you like that group's ballad work you'll like this too. Guy Guy Quote
GA Russell Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 Guy, by coincidence I've had this one on for the past half hour! I too like it more than I did when I first heard it. Let's see...Yes, here it is at lala.com. You can listen to it here: http://www.lala.com/#album/432627039263988...n/New_York_Days Quote
GA Russell Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 I'm listening to this one now, and I think it's gone from my least favorite Rava to my most favorite. Maybe it's just right for this time of night. Quote
