jeffreyluck Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Hi there-- I was wondering if you could help me answer a couple questions about a release of Nessa's? I just purchased a stunning copy of AEOC's "Les Stances A Sophie" (N4) that I'm trying to pinpoint a history/release on. I know it was first released in France in 1970 by Pathe Marconi. What year was the first Nessa release? At discogs.com they only list N4 as being released in 1979, whereas my copy has (p)1975 on the green-top/white label with Nessa's address listed as 5404 N. Kimball, Chicago. Discogs also has a listing for a 1970 N4, but it is incomplete and not verified. How many Nessa pressings of this album were there? Any help you can offer is very much appreciated and it is purely for my own curiosity/satisfaction. This is one of my favorite albums of all time and I will NEVER let go of it. It took me forever to find an original copy (ie. not a recent reprint) that wasn't a fortune... I paid $60. Thanks! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 First pressings shipped July 9, 1971. Quote
jeffreyluck Posted January 7, 2010 Author Report Posted January 7, 2010 First pressings shipped July 9, 1971. Thanks for you reply, Chuck. Is it possible what pressing (number-wise) a Nessa release is by label color? Or publication year (in this case '75)? I like to document my collection as much as possible-- especially if I'd like to get an earlier release, etc. Thanks again! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 First pressings had a Madison, WI address. First 2000 covers had artists names in "purple" ink, like the circle in the center. This was changed to "drop out" white on the first reprint a few months later. Label for pressings until 1978 matched the color on the cover - white bottom/"purple" top. Master number etched in dead wax - 15703. During the years 1971-1977 the record was pressed/repressed at least 7 times. The green label appeared when I made a distribution deal with Flying Fish records. Quote
jeffreyluck Posted January 7, 2010 Author Report Posted January 7, 2010 (edited) Thanks, again. Am I right to assume that the distribution deal with Flying Fish happened in 1978? Was that release the last Nessa pressing? Master number etched in dead wax - 15703. Mine has this as well. Am I just being an idiot? I really appreciate all of this info and your time... not to mention all the amazing music you've made available! Edited January 7, 2010 by JeffreyLuck Quote
jeffreyluck Posted January 7, 2010 Author Report Posted January 7, 2010 Right now I'm just trying to understand the (p)1975 in relation to what is (I believe) a 1978/79 release. /scratch head I appreciate this window you've given me into Nessa records, though! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 The Fish deal lasted from '78 thru '81. I continued to press it after that with an new label design. I believe the last pressing was in November of '86. Quote

brownie Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 If you have not seen the film (by Moshe Misrahi), here are a couple of scenes Quote
