Dave James Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Just got this information from the folks at Rhino Handmade. This is a music only DVD release. I'm a big fan of Chicago's first album, so this is one I'll probably end up getting. Here's a link to their website: http://www.rhino.com/shop/product/chicago-chicago-transit-authority-dvd-quadraphonic Quote
Shrdlu Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 Did anyone ever have a quadraphonic hifi? I have the Brandenburg Concertos in a 2 LP quadraphonic set. Wonder what they sound like on the proper equipment. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 Quad never broke through in the vinyl days because there were 3 different systems - SQ, QS and discrete. Quote
Dave James Posted March 8, 2010 Author Report Posted March 8, 2010 Quad never broke through in the vinyl days because there were 3 different systems - SQ, QS and discrete. Wonder what marketing genius came up with the name Discrete for Quadrophonic sound? No soup for him! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 It was meant to emphasize four discrete sound sources, unlike the other formats. Quote
Dave James Posted March 8, 2010 Author Report Posted March 8, 2010 It was meant to emphasize four discrete sound sources, unlike the other formats. On the Rhino website, they have an application where you can actually click on any one of four corners in a virtual "room" and hear the music coming from that quadrant. Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 I knew I kept this for some reason... What am I bid for Gil Evans "Svengali" Atlantic QD 1643 (4 Channel Discrete) LP? Sealed! Unplayed! Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 At 16 2/3 rpm, of course. Sorry, shrdlu, no -- at 16 2/3 it would be 8 channels, and that's just silly. Quote
