Depends on where you live. Recently I saw a list of the top-10 cars stolen for each state, and the specific cars vary a great deal, depending on where you live. I'll see if I can find that link...

Edit: Well, I haven't found the link where you can look at the list, by state, but here's a quote from a story about it...

``Vehicle theft closely follows consumer choices,'' said Mary Jo Prigge, president of CCC Information Services. ``With pickup trucks' popularity growing, not only are the pickup trucks themselves in demand, pickup truck parts are in demand as well.''

Thieves' tastes for stolen vehicles vary widely among different regions. American vehicles were more popular in the Midwest, while Japanese brands dominated the East and West Coast.

Michigan's top 50 stolen cars were American, with '95 versions of the Plymouth/Dodge Neon leading the pack. In Texas, 9 of the top 10 were trucks. In New York, the most stolen vehicle was a '98 Nissan Maxima SE, while in Indiana the leader was the '87 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale.

Here we go: Top 25 stolen vehicles in your state (based on data in 2002)

Click on your state from the map at the top of the page, or just scroll down...

For instance, I live in Missouri, and my wife and I both drive Honda Accords ('92 and '93). The theft-rate for Accords is much lower in Missouri, than it is in California, or New York, or Florida...

If you haven't found one yet, look on Ebay and sign up for carfax.com.

I bought my 1967 F-100 pickup on Ebay and I know 4 people who bought their vehicles on Ebay. Everyone's happy with theirs, especially me!

Good luck!
