papsrus Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 I was having some trouble with my apple notebook. Touch pad would, after about an hour, stop responding or take on a mind of it's own. Took it in today to my local apple service shop and it turns out the battery, which sits beneath the touch pad, was swollen, putting pressure on the touch pad. New battery, problem solved. The service guy couldn't really explain why they swell (dirt, effect of heat over time, etc.), but swell they do. Anyone else run into this? Quote
Shawn Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 (edited) The service guy couldn't really explain why they swell (dirt, effect of heat over time, etc.), but swell they do. The swelling is a safety feature of the battery, it expands to let pressure escape in the event of a failure. This is the same with all laptop batteries, regardless of manufacturer. As to why they fail, I don't think it's anything more than some being defective. Here is apple's battery page: http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html Edited April 27, 2010 by Shawn Quote
