ghost of miles Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 If anybody has an LP or CD copy of this 1981 release, could he or she drop me a PM? Many thanks! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 (edited) Though recorded in '81, it wasn't release until '89. Not sure there was ever a vinyl of it. FWIW, they only play together on 2 of the 7 tracks - Chico has one solo feature and Von the rest. Edited May 1, 2010 by Chuck Nessa Quote

Ah--that might explain why we don't have an LP copy of it here at the station (no CD, either). We have quite a few of the other India Navigation releases, including some of Chico's. Quote
jeffcrom Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 The two Freemans also play together on one side of the 1982 Columbia album Fathers and Sons, which has Ellis Marsalis along with Wynton and Branford on the other side. I don't think it's ever been released on CD, at least in the U.S. I've always been taken with how much more interesting, even avant-garde, Von's playing is when compared to his son's. Quote

Yep--we've got that one on LP here at the station, and I'm taking it home tonight to give it a listen. Interested in the India Navigation especially to hear the much longer versions of "I Can't Get Started" and "Jug Ain't Gone," which clock in at about 4 minutes apiece on the Columbia LP. Quote
