ghost of miles Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 This came out earlier this year on the Quicksilver label. The line-up features Joe Henderson on tenor (though not on every track), David Friesen on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. Very moody, dark-sounding Waldron for the most part, and it's great--I think many here would dig it. He does a solo version of "Chazz Jazz," a nice Golson tribute called "Golden Golson," good cover of "How Deep Is the Ocean" (the only standard--everything else written by Mal, I believe). More proof that jazz was certainly not dead in the 80's, Young Lions aside! Quote
sal Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 I have this one as well and greatly enjoy it! Some of Joe Henderson's best playing on record, IMO. Quote
king ubu Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 Sounds good! Gotta check it out! Hey, have you heard "One Upmanship" One of my favorite jazz albums of its decade! ubu Quote
Peter Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 Is David Friesen the guy from Oregon who plays mostly in the upper register and a lot of notes? Quote
