ghost of miles Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 I'm working on a Night Lights show featuring music from some of the Charlie Parker memorial concerts that were held in the first 15 years or so after his death. Apparently there was an annual one in Chicago (documented on the Ira Sullivan 2-CD set BIRD LIVES!). Did any board members attend any of these concerts or hear much about them? I'm also trying to run down some sort of copy of the 1970 "Charlie Parker Memorial Concert" 2-LP set that was recorded in Chicago that year, featuring, among others, Dexter Gordon and Red Rodney. Niko Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 the one with Rodney, Gordon etc is available on cd here (couldn't find it on amazon.com, strangely, but prices are low...) This is a most valuable archive link to the Jazz Institute of Chicago's former webpage containing loads of stuff not yet (?) on the new page (last time i looked) such as the Bronzeville Conversations (link on the right); right in the middle of the page there's a bit about the 1963 memorial concert...
