jazztrain Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 RIP. I remember being charmed by his duo album ("Dois Irmaos") with guitarist Raphael Rebello. I'll be playing that again soon. Quote
mikeweil Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 (edited) Great musician, extending the Brazilian choro tradition into jazz. I have a lot of very nice music of his. R.I.P. Edited July 16, 2010 by mikeweil Quote
seeline Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 (edited) He was best known - in Brazil - as a gafieira (Rio samba dance hall) soloist and bandleader. One of his more recent CDs, Estação Leopoldinha, features him playing in that style, but with a small choro-style ensemble. My favorite out of all of the recordings I've heard is Mistura e Manda, on Kuarup Discos. (o.p., but it's on emusic and it might not be that hard to find a copy - it was licensed for European release at one time.) Mistura... is choro, but in a contemporary style. (It's also available as a download from Kuarup - although it looks like their store is offline at the moment...) Dois Irmãos (which jazztrain already mentioned), a duo album with guitarist Raphael Rabello, is my other fave. Paulo's website: http://www.paulomoura.com/ Edited July 17, 2010 by seeline Quote
Harold_Z Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 RIP Paulo. All I can add to the above is I've always enjoyed his music. Quote
