romualdo Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 (edited) Anyone know if one can source the dates & musicians list (plus titles played) +/- recorded -> has anyone compiled this material? eg - what Newports did Monk play & how many of these were recorded? -> I could probably work this out by sourcing a number of my Monk texts The official Newport website has very scant information re old concerts (50's & 60's) Wolfgang's Vault have many previously unreleased Newport performances available as downloads (MP3's & FLACS) - I'm tempted to subscribe (costs $48/year - get $50 of downloads & 30% off each download if you're a subscriber) - any comments on the quality of the downloads? jazztrain Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 For the early years, there's some information (but not as detailed as what you're looking for) in Burt Goldblatt's book "Newport Jazz Festival." Even so, there are listings of groups by date as I recall and some good photos. Anyone know if one can source the dates & musicians list (plus titles played) +/- recorded -> has anyone compiled this material? eg - what Newports did Monk play & how many of these were recorded? -> I could probably work this out by sourcing a number of my Monk texts The official Newport website has very scant information re old concerts (50's & 60's) Wolfgang's Vault have many previously unreleased Newport performances available as downloads (MP3's & FLACS) - I'm tempted to subscribe (costs $48/year - get $50 of downloads & 30% off each download if you're a subscriber) - any comments on the quality of the downloads? Dan Gould Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 They are soundboard recordings and I haven't heard a bad one yet. In addition - that $48 fee gets you much more than $50 worth of downloads. They apply the 30% discount on purchases immediately, so you actually get $65 worth of downloads for your membership fee. Not sure why they don't promote it that way but that's how it worked for me. Quote
