I've been enjoying the new album by The Either/Orchestra called Mood Music for Time Travellers.

It's an interesting program, ranging from something written by someone who has heard a lot of James Brown, to songs as mainstream as they can be with an electric bass.

I'm surprised I haven't heard this yet on Sirius, because there are some radio-worthy tracks here. The album swings from start to finish. If you don't dislike an electric bass, you'll probably like this.

First real live jazz concert I ever heard was the Either/Orchestra, circa 1989/90 iirc -- probably with John Medeski and Matt Wilson in the group at the time.

Almost anything Russ Gershon is involved in is worth hearing, IMHO.

I would enthusiastically agree regarding Russ. E/O has gone through myriad personnel changes over the years and always retained definite artistic quality, ranging from the fascinating "covers" of what some might consider surprising material on the earlier recordings, through the Ethiopian jazz and the somewhat more Afro-Cuban oriented material, and on to this CD, which is another superb one.
