BillF Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Felt this movie deserved a thread to itself! Spanish fictional animated film set largely in late 1940s Havana and New York about a romance between a jazz and Latin pianist and a vocalist. "Stars" Chano Pozo, Dizzy Gillespie, Ben Webster and others. Film makers are obviously steeped in the musical culture of those times. Some lovely touches; e.g. when the aspiring Cuban pianist sits in with the visiting Woody Herman band in Havana in 1948 and Woody calls Ebony Concerto! Again, when Chico introduces Rita to bop by playing an unaccompanied version of Bud Powell's "So Sorry Please", causing her to break into an ecstatic dance. Noticed the names of Jimmy Heath and Conrad Herwig in the musician credits at the end. Anyone else seen it? Quote
mikeweil Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Certainly would love to see it. Seems there is a graphic novel, too: Seems there's no DVD yet. Shown in the UK only so far, it seems: http://chicoandrita.co.uk/ Quote
