Lazaro Vega Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Saw this exhibited at Art Prize in Grand Rapids last fall. http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/gallery/2011/jan/02/photography-detroit Quote
John Tapscott Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 It is sad what has happened to Detroit, but one could argue that in this case, the market did exactly what was "right". It punished incompetent, fat-cat and greedy management, shareholders, unions. The "market" is for automobiles and consumers were "right" in gravitating towards better quality foreign-made automobiles. If the market hadn't worked, we'd be still driving Detroit junk like the Vega, Pinto or Omni. Quote
golfcrazy1984 Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 It's sad seeing such grand places in ruin. But look at the Roman and Greek ruins... Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 I think we could elaborate on the definitions of "right" and "wrong" a bit. Quote
Christiern Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 To quote the great Gertrude "Ma" Rainey: "If you don't believe I'm sinkin', look what a hole I'm in!" Very depressing. Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 there will always be someone to do a job more cheaply than yourself, and likely, better, or your job will become unnecessary or redundant. call it corporate greed; i choose to call it the way of the world. Quote
BruceH Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Ah, ruin porn! Michigan Central Station is becoming as famous as the Bradbury Building. Wonder if it too will ever be renovated. Quote
Royal Oak Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 That is genuinely breathtaking, both the grandeur and the decay. I had no idea. Quote
kinuta Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 (edited) The BBC made a fascinating documentary called Requiem For Detroit that predates this amazing collection and is very impressive. Edited January 15, 2011 by kinuta Quote
