Ted O'Reilly Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 I think I'll wait to see what The Word is from Ellington-mavens on this. I was at the last one in London, and was quite disappointed. Quote
miles65 Posted July 5, 2011 Author Report Posted July 5, 2011 I think I'll wait to see what The Word is from Ellington-mavens on this. I was at the last one in London, and was quite disappointed. There were mixed reactions last time I know. It was my first Ellington conference and I had no reference point from previous conferences. Most lectures/talks (Bjarne Busk, Steven Lasker, Earl Okin to name a few that spring to mind)were interesting I thought. And I was happy to meet a number of people I only knew from the Internet. I'll be glad to meet them again. And I loved the bands playing Ellington's music live. Off course some were better than others but I liked them being live. Harmony in Harlem was my favorite. I didn't care much for Michael Garrick's own stuff. Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 Most lectures/talks (Bjarne Busk, Steven Lasker, Earl Okin to name a few that spring to mind)were interesting I thought. Per your examples: Busk, excellent. Lasker, pretty good. I'm still trying to erase Okin (who is he anyway???) from my memory bank. The living ex-Ellingtonians (Buster Cooper and Art Baron were both past their best-before date, the music was average at best, the lecture hall poor with bad acoustics and audio... And how often can you recycle Ellington-trips-to-UK as a topic? Quote
