We used to watch it on Saturday nights when it was still airing live. Larry Hooper was always one of my favorites, along with drummer, Johnny Kline, violinist Bob Lido and trumpeter Rocky Rockwell. Even back then, I had no time for the shtick, but when it got down to cases, that band could fire up and play. Quote

Even back then, I had no time for the shtick, but when it got down to cases, that band could fire up and play. george thow was certainly a substantial trumpeter. pete fountain was in the band for a time.it was a few weeks before petey donned the obligatory welk hairpiece.i dont know what welk had against chromedomes, as many times as he played ,'shine on harvest moon.' guitarist lebang was a performer of some note in the jazz field, as i recall.
