Bright Moments Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 I'm surprised no one has found this one yet! Quote
Joe G Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Haven't heard the album but we caught her show in Florida last October. A very moving and powerful singer. I expect good things from her in the future. Quote
JSngry Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 The look so does NOT work for me, Quote
JSngry Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 The look so does NOT work for me, Damn, Jim, that's shallow. Quote
JSngry Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 The look so does NOT work for me, Damn, Jim, that's shallow. Well, yeah. But she's on Verve, and I know that somebody's doing "image construction" on her, so consider it consumer feedback. The whole "Carnaby St. Lesbian" look does not make me want to listen to her music. Besides, what's up with the extra "z" in "Lizz"? WAY too damn "cute" for me. I HATE cute! Live by the image, die by the image. Them's the facts of life. Quote
chris olivarez Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Yeah. Cute is more applicable for Britney Spears not someone who wants to make music that is something more than here today and gone tomorrow. Quote
Joe G Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 FWIW, she seemed attractive, sweet, down-home, and ladylike in person. Quote
JSngry Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 FWIW, she seemed attractive, sweet, down-home, and ladylike in person. Well, there you go. That don't sell records (or so the label mavens seem to think...). This "image" crap can backfire amongst the core jazz listening audience. That look leads me to expect something along the lines of Me'Shell NdegéOcello or some such, which is cool, but... I'll check her out sometimes. Quote
Bright Moments Posted January 10, 2004 Author Report Posted January 10, 2004 I have the cd. She does sound a little like . . . .Sade! Quote
Leeway Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 The whole "Carnaby St. Lesbian" look does not make me want to listen to her music. Actually, I've always been rather fond of that look. Anyway, she looks plenty attractive to my eyes. More to the point, "Salt" was among the 20 best jazz albums of 2003, according to our local public radio jazz station programmers. Quote
Big Wheel Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 I met one of the piano players on the CD, Kenny Banks, a few months ago. That dude can play. Quote
