ghost of miles Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 E-mail from a movie buff friend who knows of my affection for old Universal monster flicks: FRANKENSTEIN: The Legacy Collection On April 27, Universal will release "Frankenstein: The Legacy Collection," made up of titles previously released but currently out of print. The three-disc set will include FRANKENSTEIN (1931), BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, SON OF FRANKENSTEIN, GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN and HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN. No FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLFMAN or HOUSE OF DRACULA. This set will retail for under $30. No extras, supposedly, but for that kinda list price (meaning a place like Deep Discount DVD will have it for even less) I'll probably spring. Quote
Alexander Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 I've only ever seen the first two. For my money, "Bride of Frankenstein" is the greatest of the Universal horror cycle, with "The Mummy" and "Dracula" right behind it. Quote
Out2Lunch Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Don't forget "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein" Quote
BERIGAN Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 Don't forget "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein" Oh Yes, a classic for sure! It is still out on DVD. Strange, great that this set has so many films, but I wish they would toss on some extras! Here is what came with the now out of print DVD edition of Frankenstein. http://dvdmg.com/frankenstein.shtml Oh, by the way, when did they add back Colin Clive's famous line that was edited out, "Now I know what it feels like to be God" I had heard a while back that it was lost forever! I know they added back the footage where the Monster kills the girl, but I could swear that a few years back his line was not there, just the lip syncing. I saw it run on TV a month or so ago, and I was shocked to hear the line! Has it been on the tapes, DVD's all along, and I was still seeing old copies on TV? Or did I just think it wasn't back in? Think it's been added back in during the last decade or so. Might have made it's first appearance on the old laser disc--I have it and I'll check. Man, remember the awful jump-cut/splice on the old prints where they just snipped the line out? Quote
ghost of miles Posted June 22, 2004 Author Report Posted June 22, 2004 More news from same friend: On October 5, Universal Home Video will release three more sets in its "Monster Legacy Collections." There will be a CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON set that will also include its sequels REVENGE OF THE CREATURE and THE CREATURE WALKS AMONG US. THE MUMMY set will include the 1931 Boris Karloff classic, as well as THE MUMMY'S HAND, THE MUMMY'S TOMB, THE MUMMY'S GHOST and THE MUMMY'S CURSE. THE INVISIBLE MAN will include the original film starring Claude Rains, as well as THE INVISIBLE MAN RETURNS (with Vincent Price), THE INVISIBLE MAN'S REVENGE, THE INVISIBLE AGENT and THE INVISIBLE Granted, the later Mummy movies tend to be pretty bad, but I may still give that set a chance, even though I already have the Karloff... I've been enjoying the box w/Dracula/Frankenstein/the Wolfman quite a bit this summer. Quote

The Mule Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 (edited) Yes! Yes, the line has been restored. Geez, sorry, I forgot I even posted in this thread.... btw, the line was actually in the original 1931 prints. It was cut a few years later after the Hayes Office and Production Code were created and was only restored in the past decade or so... Edited June 24, 2004 by The Mule Quote
