XK3 Settings

neilo

Recommended Posts

I'm like a guitar player. Always searching for that elusive sound coming from my Hammond. Everytime I hear Jim's Hammond XK it brings tears to my eyes. I've got the XK3 with the lower manual, running thru leslie 3300 and I love it. I've downloaded Jim's tonewheel settings he sent me last year. It definitely improved the sound but I'm still not there yet. Any setting recommendations that could enhance the tone even more from any of you would be greatly appreciated. From the percussion, reverb, tubes, vibrato, chorus, you name it. You Hammond players know exactly what I'm looking for I'm sure. I've just never been able to tweak it to where it's exactly what I'm looking for. Help is appreciated.

Have you changed the tube in the 3300?

No, what do you recommend? I tried changing the tubes in my Hammond last year but really didn't care for it. It may have been the tubes themselves, they were given to me, but I went back with the original tubes. Also, love to know your percussion settings. Mine may well be out of whack from tweaking so much. We have somewhat similar setup but your tone is so much better. Thanks for any help and sorry to be a pain.

I tube section in the XK3 is rather dull, imo. I don't ever bother with it.

Changing the tube in the 3300, however, makes a big difference. I recommend a NOS (new old stock) Tung Sol 12AT7. Not the new Tung Sols. The name was bought by some Chinese firm and they are not good. Get an old one off eBay. They are relatively inexpensive. Put that baby in there and you'll notice a HUGE difference. You can also experiment with other older brands like RCA, Sylvania, Philips, GE, etc. But I like the Tung Sols the best.

hey Jim...finally got around to changing tube in 3300, however whenever I turn on the tube drive level on the 3300 I get this buzz or feedback? Put old tube back and it's fine....bad tube suppose? Bit disappointed.......
