The more I hear from Palmer, the more impressed I am. IMO he is one of the more interesting of the young generation of trumpeters operating within the more or less straight ahead orbit. He is not mentioned in the jazz press as prominently as someone like Ambrose Akinmusire, but he is worth checking out. His most recent recording, with Mark Turner, Nir Felder,Edward Perez and Kendrick Scott is his best so far. Interesting compositions, fresh, honest playing by all the participants and it swings naturally.
