ghost of miles Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 If you're at all into truly soulful, old-school Dexter Gordon-ish tenor-sax bop, then I think you'll dig this: Blues for Pekar He's playing at the Jazz Kitchen in Indianapolis tomorrow night with the Steve Allee Trio. Sure wish I could drive up to see him, but I'll be on the air for fund-drive. Quote
ghost of miles Posted November 3, 2011 Author Report Posted November 3, 2011 Aside to mstryker: note the "Detroit Connection" rhythm section on this date. Quote
TedR Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 Thanks for the heads up on this. I also like the Sean Jones, Dominick Farinacci Cleveland connection. Found it interesting that, at a panel discussion at a suburban Cleveland library, Ernie Krivda said that Jascha Heifetz was an influence on his tone. Fan of Harvey Pekar's work too so I have to pick this up. Quote
skeith Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 I picked this one up. It's a very lively great set of standards and a couple of originals. He's with a Detroit band this time, except for a couple of tunes with his regular trumpeter Dominic Farinacci. I am really enjoyind this one and that it's a tribute to Harvey Pekar is a nice touch.
