Pete C Posted April 15, 2012 Report Posted April 15, 2012 I know and love his duets with Ruby Braff, Ella, and Larry Adler. Has he recorded duets with other artists? Quote
brownie Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 I just love Ellis Larkins! He accompanied Anita Ellis on her album 'A Legend Sings' Preparations for the recording of the duo album were the subject of the chapter on Larkins in Whitney Balliett's book 'American Musicians'. Quote
Pete C Posted April 16, 2012 Author Report Posted April 16, 2012 (edited) Ah yes, I owned that years ago, inspired by Balliet's book (American Singers). The only time I remember seeing Larkins was with Helen Humes at Barney Josephson's The Cookery, in 1975. I wonder if there are any recordings from that period of just the two of them; I don't have the Columbia album any more, but I have a CD with a New Years Eve Performance at Windows on the World (also featuring Eddie Jefferson). And maybe something with Mildred Bailey? I'll have to dig further. Edited April 16, 2012 by Pete C Quote
