I wasn't even aware that a film about Nina Simone was in the works, but I guess the casting of Zoe Saldana (whoever that is) in the lead role has got folks up in arms. Here's the NYT article about the movie and the controversy.

The film is the brainchild of Ms. Mort, who wrote the script and will direct as well....

According to Ms. Mort, who is white, the film was not intended to be a biography in the strict sense, but instead “a love story about an artist’s journey unto herself,” she said.

nina passed away the same day as my wife, in 2003.

there are no reasonable approximations of either to me. just let them be.
