Ware's longtime manager Steven Joerg, the family's official spokesman, has authorized the following statement about his client's passing. ===== Last night, saxophonist and composer David S. Ware succumbed to complications from his 2009 kidney transplant at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He was 62. His remains will be cremated and a musical memorial service will be organized for a later date. Guy Berger Posted October 19, 2012 Report Share Posted October 19, 2012 (edited) RIP. I saw him live once (or maybe twice) with Matthew Shipp, William Parker and (I think) Guillermo Brown. Really enjoyed it. I also have three albums, one of which I think is fantastic (Dao). Anyway, I liked his playing. I checked him out right after going on a major late Coltrane kick and noticing his name mentioned in this context. He had a very striking tone - it was big, harsh, and brittle - without the softness that Coltrane retained in his final music. Reminds me a little of Hawk, now that I think about it. jeffcrom Posted October 20, 2012 Report Share Posted October 20, 2012 Flight of i (particularly the title tune) took the top of my head off when it came out in 1992, and I was a fan thereafter. I really dug yesterdays WKCR memorial broadcast, I probably listened to about 4 or 5 hours of it. He was a NJ man...grew up and lived real close to me, although I didn't know him. I've been interested in his playing since. I've not always enjoyed it but there was no doubt about his sincerity. I would have loved to have heard Mr. Ware with Cyrille. I did hear him live once in Raleigh right after Go See The World came out with Shipp, Parker and Dickey. Lovely finish with Ware playing the blues like he'd played r&b all his life. Played his Freedom Suite in the week, excellent and highly recommended.
