Charles Durning Dies

I was just thinking a couple of weeks ago (during my umpteenth viewing of The Sting) that this man has been in a lot of amazing movies.

He was in 'Tootsie' which had an all-star cast.

When I was in High School my class went to see 'That Championship Season' on Broadway(Durning was in the cast)- it was written by Jason Miller, who used to teach at my high school. One of my classmates, a real wiseass, decides to throw a piece of candy onto the stage. Durning, without missing a line or appearing the least bit ruffled, picked up the piece of candy and put it in a bowl on the stage.

unforgettable is his war recollection about a very young soldier wounding him with a bayonet, having shot him, and then holding his lifeless body, sobbing.

another fabulous actor and extremely interesting man leaves us. makes me sad and grateful that i got to see him on the stage a couple of times. he was so amazing. Rest in Peace, Mr. Durning.
