JSngry Posted May 29, 2013 Report Posted May 29, 2013 Thanks to the generosity of Greg Waits, through the auspices of the Meridian Room, and after a somewhat prolonged absence from public display, Damn Spot (Jim Sangrey, Lyles West, & Denis Durick) will be performing at The Meridian Room on Thursday, June 6. There will be free improv, there will be originals, there will be standards, and if you can distinguish none but enjoy all, we will have met our goal. The gig runs from 9-12, and won’t make you deaf. Stirred, hopefully, but not deaf. Not unless that's what you want, in which case, sit real close. http://www.themeridianroom.com/ 3611 Parry Ave Dallas, TX 75226 (214) 826-8383 Quote
JSngry Posted May 29, 2013 Author Report Posted May 29, 2013 I can pay your bus fare if you like scenic routes and stuff like that, seriously, yes. Quote
jeffcrom Posted May 29, 2013 Report Posted May 29, 2013 I can pay your bus fare if you like scenic routes and stuff like that, seriously, yes. Dude! But I'll be on an airplane to see the smartest and prettiest six-year-old grandniece ever, and her three-year-old brother who worships her. Seriously, when this girl was living in Germany a couple of years ago, she and her parents stopped to hear some street musicians in Saarbrucken. She said, "When I get big, I want to play music like Uncle Jeff." How cool is that? Quote
JSngry Posted May 29, 2013 Author Report Posted May 29, 2013 Ok, bus fare, express ticket. You and the cutie. My treat. Quote

JSngry Posted June 6, 2013 Author Report Posted June 6, 2013 Up one more 'gin for the early dinner crowd. Quote
JSngry Posted June 7, 2013 Author Report Posted June 7, 2013 I'd like to thank the people who came out, and I'd also like to thank the people who didn't come out, because they made it easier to see the people who did come out! Quote
Joe Posted June 7, 2013 Report Posted June 7, 2013 :tup Great to hear this particular aggregation / congregation / conglomeration given the freedom to dance again... have you all ever thought of doing an entire set of suicide groovers (after "Ode to Billie Joe")? Quote
JSngry Posted June 7, 2013 Author Report Posted June 7, 2013 The gig was a one-off, at least for now. Greg Waits has Thursdays @ the Meridian but had a conflict, so he offered me the night, and I brought the group in. If a similar opportunity presents itself, carpe diem it will be! But this trio has been playing in various incarnations for almost 20 years now. We've more or less given up on actively looking for "opportunities", this ain't that kind of town, but again, if we come across one, yeah, We'll be there. "Suicide groovers", eh? If I'd have known there was gonna be suicide involved, I'd have packed a suit & worn sunglasses. I gotta be honest, though - we'd not played together at this length in about ten years. It was kinda fun to go that long and not have to "reaquaint" or anything, juat start playing, and there it was, like it had never left. Very..."life-affirming" on our end, and hopefully enjoyable on y'all's. So...stay tuned - if we can get some more spots, we'll certainly Damn them! Quote
kh1958 Posted June 7, 2013 Report Posted June 7, 2013 I enjoyed the concert--the tenor player is quite skilled, one of those inside/outside players. Hopefully there will be another opportunity soon, and I'll try to be there. Quote
