I've had a steady diet of Fela for the last few weeks, and yesterday I started hearing how in his tenor playing, there would be these flashes where the sound and the articulation comes together in such a way that for that quick moment he sounds like Charlie Rouse. Once I noticed it, I started listening for it, and...it happens more than I would have expected. Over as soon as it begins, almost, but it occurs every so often over and over.
