Blue Train
I posted somewhere that the Beach Boys were not in the same Universe as the Beatles.....and Armageddon resulted. I still think the same thing. Ray Davies really wasn't a fan of Revolver, and English Jazz musicians can't swing. http://dangerousminds.net/comments/the_kinks_vs._the_beatles_ray_davies_thought_revolver_was_garbage Edited October 20, 2013 by Blue Train
paul secor
Not that it matters, 47 years after the fact, but I think his comments were pretty much on the mark.
Blue Train
It's a subjective subject and very much À chacun son goût....and yes, 40-50 years. Watch out if you say the Beach Boys were not in the same Universe of the Beatles. P.S. Joe Harriott and others could swing.

mjzee
Don't underestimate how much of this could be due to professional jealousy.

paul secor
Not that I plan to listen to it, but I'll never be able to hear "Taxman" in the same way as I once did. Songwriters can often have a good sense of where other writers got their stuff from.
Blue Train
Not wanting to start another Armageddon, but "The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society" & "Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire)" Nuff said for me. .:.impossible
That wasn't exactly a takedown. I read a lot of respect there. That's not to say that he isn't critical of a handful of songs! It reads to me like his expectations were not met. No big deal. What does your last post mean? Those are your two favorite Kinks records? I have a soft spot for EVERYBODY'S IN SHOW BUSINESS.
