danasgoodstuff Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 (edited) I've been asked to give my input at work (Mult Co Library, best public library system in America) as to whether we should acquire some of the Hal Leonard Play-along books/CDs or something else similar. Any thoughts? Edited October 23, 2013 by danasgoodstuff Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 My father was a big band era fan. He heard all the bands and insisted Hal Leonard was as good as any of the national touring bands. Leonard worked out of Wisconsin, no? I think you might find better ways to spend money. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted October 23, 2013 Author Report Posted October 23, 2013 I'd be all for us buying cheap instruments and lending them, but I don't think that's going to happen. Quote
page Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 How about Aebersold? I have always found those very useful. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted October 31, 2013 Author Report Posted October 31, 2013 We have a few Aebersold and a few Hal leonard already. Quote
page Posted November 1, 2013 Report Posted November 1, 2013 (edited) Ok, sorry then I'm not sure I understand your question. So do you want to know about different similar published books and cd's available or do you want to know which issues of the HL/Aebersold to get besides the ones you already have there? edit: I do not know that much HL and since I had acces to some Aebersold, I used those at first. I can point you out to a reference with all the songs with keys and tempo from the Aebersold. Since I'm a singer, I did pick out some books especially for singers of course, and got single songs from the library. Nowadays I use 'Band in a box" for nearly all of my songs. That is a software program which allows you to change keys and pick out the accompaniment you like and change tempo which is very handy. However I still think play along books with cds are very useful for anyone who is learning to play an instrument or sing. If you would like I could check which ones they have here in our music library in Amsterdam and post the titles. Edited November 1, 2013 by page Quote
