Joe McPhee labors of love continue with Corbett Dempsey's nice 4 CD Complete Recordings. Be warned though almost no high fidelity sound here. I'm toughing out low/mid-fi Black Magic Man right now... hell it's no big deal I'm glad to have this specifically on disc finally. I enjoyed the printed interview too.

I was listening to the LP last week and it sounded OK. Must be the transfer to CD,

Nation Time sounds fine and clear as a mid fi field recording, it's the best sounding disc in the set and quite enjoyable. Unfortunately I'd say Black Magic Man is the weakest audio-wise, significant fall-off from Nation Time, high frequencies are not there.

I got this set a month or so ago and I have "Black Magic Man" on Hat Art vinyl as well...I agree it does not sound that great...the original vinyl sounds a bit dull too. I've said it in another thread devoted to this reissue on this same website that this period of McPhee does not blow me away at all...his later group recordings in the late 70s/early 80s on Hat Art are more interesting to these ears...
