JSngry Posted January 13, 2014 Author Report Posted January 13, 2014 No love for Ed Wynn, Scary Rabbit Masks, Tuxedos, or Violins? Sad if not. Ed Wynn was funny! Quote
JSngry Posted January 13, 2014 Author Report Posted January 13, 2014 Who's not love the Ed Wynn? Especially with the giant smoking head in front of the little conductor man down in front, to say nothing of the Helen forrest AND The Trhee stooges. Live TV! Limited Technology! Old School jokes! Good ones! "You know what an executive is to me?" HA! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 I have fond memories of Ed Wynn but these clips give me pause. Quote
JSngry Posted January 14, 2014 Author Report Posted January 14, 2014 Well, yeah, that's what I mean, this stuff was weird as hell in all kinds of ways, and it just came into your house, burnt itself into your brains, then off to bed and the next day, hey, up and at em! Quote
paul secor Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 I remember Ed Wynn from when I was a kid. Never took to him much then. I enjoyed the What's My Line? clip, but his own show seemed to embody the corniest side of vaudeville. I like old jokes, but they have to be good ones. I guess mmv. Quote
JSngry Posted January 15, 2014 Author Report Posted January 15, 2014 Yeah, corny (or worse) at times, but I find his pitch, timing, and reflection damn near perfect, on violin, physically, in speech. Skills. The material is secondary for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hd-tiyxISig Quote
paul secor Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 Just a Wikipedia bio - with all of the limitations that entails - but it appears that he had and interesting career and life, and made a brave career change late in his life. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Wynn Quote
JSngry Posted January 15, 2014 Author Report Posted January 15, 2014 I dug how he started his own network. It's like he was the Mingus or Charles Tolliver of Old-Time Radio. And ever better is why it failed - he lef for Hollywood and left the roll out to his partner, who ended up being some kind of altruistic artist-purist or some such. No business sense at all. You think of Ed Wynn, you don't think of all that, but there it was, along with what you do think about. Quote
