A friend of mine, Peter Manson, asks:

Does anyone know if there is a currently-available CD of Son House's

Paramount sessions from 1930? -- all the the titles listed on Amazon

seem to be either later recordings or compilations which include some

early work, and I want it all.

Can anyone answer his question?

I think all 26 pre-1942 Son House sides are on the 'Legends of Country Blues' 5CD box from JSP. Will confirm later today when I get home and check the box.

The set also has complete pre-War recordings by Skip James, Bukka White, Tommy Johnson and Ishman Bracey.

The JSP 'Legends of Country Blues' has all the Paramount sides Son House recorded under his name. Disc A of the 5CD set has the following tracks:

- Walkin' Blues

- My Black Mama, Part 1

- My Black Mama, Part 2

- Preachin' the Blues, Part 1

- Preachin' the Blues, Part 2

- Dry Spell Blues, Part 1

- Dry Spell Blues, Part 2

That set also includes the 19 sides Son House recorded in 1941 and 1942.

The same Son House sides from Paramount are also on another JSP box, the Charley Patton Complete Recordings. They are on disc D of the 5CD box.

I just recently got the cd John L has pictured. It has those 7 songs and has other artists who also recorded only a few songs. Unfortunatley I can't remember them. Go to the Document Records website.
