jeffcrom Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 A rare event for us in the deep South - Anthony Braxton will be in residence at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa from February 18 to 25. He'll be performing six (free!) concerts during that period - here are the details. I'm particularly intrigued by the February 20th quartet including Alvin Fielder and Alabama's two foremost avant-garde improvisers, Davey Williams and LaDonna Smith. Because of my gig schedule, I'll only be able to go to the first two concerts - a solo performance and a concert with the UA Percussion Ensemble and Big Band. But wow. Quote
colinmce Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 I saw this. Only 6 hours away, but no way I can make it. I'd prefer not to think about it. Quote
NIS Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I think that Diamond Curtain Wall Quintet is playing at Duke University sometime toward the end of Feb. also. Quote
Leeway Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 That Williams/Smith/Braxton set should be exciting. Are they recording this? Would make a great box set! Quote
