ghost of miles Posted July 28, 2015 Report Posted July 28, 2015 Brought to my attention by a friend this morning:Every Single Tree In The Forest: Mark Turner As Seen By His Peers Quote
Fer Urbina Posted July 28, 2015 Report Posted July 28, 2015 I read both parts a few days back and was very impressed, especially since the writer is not older than 24.F Quote
Guy Berger Posted July 28, 2015 Report Posted July 28, 2015 Thanks for sharing. Interesting read and, as others have said, well written. There was an interesting interview with Steve Coleman a while back (shared in these forums, I think?) where SC mentioned he was often surprised about who would show up to his master classes. Mark Turner was mentioned in that context. Quote
xybert Posted July 29, 2015 Report Posted July 29, 2015 Very interesting read. Not being snarky at all but i just don't get the 'Marker Turner is massively influential on a generation of sax players' thing. Did you need to be there at the time? I have the first ECM Fly album, but that's it, and i rarely see anyone else mention that they're listening to him. I have nothing against him whatsoever but i just always find it puzzling when he, of all current players, gets singled out as a huge influence on other current players or up and comers or whatever. Just thinking aloud. The article got me interested in listening to more of his stuff. Quote
jlhoots Posted July 29, 2015 Report Posted July 29, 2015 The ECM newest Billy Hart Qt. CD with Turner is pretty good. Quote
