I attended the first installment of the month long AACM 50th Anniversary Celebration Festival in New York.  It was held at the Community Church of New York, which is a really nice venue with good acoustics.  The event was professionally video recorded.

It began with a  panel discussion with Dr. Muhal Richard Abrams, Thurman Barker, Iqua Colson, Roscoe Mitchell, Amina Claudine Myers, Reggie Nicholson, and Henry Threadgill.  Each panelist spoke about the importance of the AACM to him or her.  It was interesting to hear the positive impact that the AACM had on each artist's life.

It ended with a duo concert with Muhal Richard Abrams and Roscoe Mitchell.   I had never seen either one live; they were both superb.  What was really impressive is that Abrams is 85 and Mitchell is 75, but they are each playing with so much "fire" and creativity.
