12/07/1955.  the first 15minutes was not recorded, so there is a filler from a different date on all issues.

Next up for me, further evidence of the conspiracy to denude the human spirit.

Brahms
Piano Concerto No. 2 in B flat major 50’

interval

Reinbert de Leeuw

Of course we love 'Ollie' over here and he has been big at Tanglewood too (see the American composers thread).

** for my interest, can you guys outside UK listen to Proms on BBC radio iplayer? **

WP  Bach's Solo Cello Suites 3,4,5 by Mischa Maisky (DG)

NP Bach's Solo Cello Suites 1,2,3 by Anner Bylsma (Vivarte/Sony)

first listens for both of these.  I was interested in hearing more versions of one of my favorite classical pieces.

NP anner Bylsma's Bach Solo Cello Suites (Sony) second disc (4,5,6

I'm really loving this performance a lot.  The instrument's sound reminds me of my Casals recording, lots of wood.  His Suite #1 has a rhythm to it that is more of a shifting of tempo instead of hard counts,. It sounds like he is pushing and pulling and gives ot a serpentine feel to it.  I find it exhilarating.

Richie Beirach, Gregor Huebner, George Mraz - Round about Mompou (ACT)

Ravishing variations over Federico Mompous Musica Callada.
With his "Round about" cylce of three albums (Bartok, Mompou, Monteverdi) Beirach proves to be a musical genius.
And by presenting German violinist Gregor Huebner he came up with a sensational discovery.
Marvellous music that belongs to a dozen albums I esteem extremely high.

Bruckner: Symphony No. 7 / Eugen Jochum, Staatskapelle Dresden
Magnificent! If I'm taking just ONE Bruckner recording to my desert island, THIS IS IT.

Now listening to more music from this wonderful conductor. This time it's LvB's Eroica with the London SO.
