A Lark Ascending
Tippett - Divertimento on Sellinger's Round; Little Music; The Heart's Assurance; Concerto for Double String Orchestra Birtwistle - Angel Fighter; In Broken Images; Virelai. First piece went right over my head - a dramatic piece so needs a libretto to follow at least. Enjoyed the craggy second orchestral piece much more. And the short third is almost a neoclassical pop tune! RVW - Symphony 9. Brought to mind whilst wandering around Stonehenge - the LP I had of this in the 70s had a striking Constable or Turner pictures of the stones on the cover. six string
NP anner Bylsma's Bach Solo Cello Suites (Sony) second disc (4,5,6 I'm really loving this performance a lot. Â The instrument's sound reminds me of my Casals recording, lots of wood. Â His Suite #1 has a rhythm to it that is more of a shifting of tempo instead of hard counts,. It sounds like he is pushing and pulling and gives ot a serpentine feel to it. Â I find it exhilarating.
