medjuck Posted September 26, 2016 Report Posted September 26, 2016 Was going through the Trane discography and came across: Jam Session At The Plaza Hotel Lee Morgan (trumpet) John Coltrane (tenor sax) Billy Strayhorn (piano) Sam Jones, Jimmy Woode (bass) Philly Joe Jones (drums) "Edwardian Room", The Plaza Hotel, NYC, September 9, 1958 Lullaby Of Birdland Columbia unissued Unknown Ballad Has anyone ever heard this? The same night as the Miles Davis Sextette recordings. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 26, 2016 Report Posted September 26, 2016 (edited) I have seen that listed as well. At one point I asked Michael Cuscuna if he would consider a box set of the Plaza recordings that night, I figured it would be an amazing opportunity to document all the artists on the Columbia roster that appeared, I figured there would have to be great photos and even some eyewitness accounts and more music than we got released on a few LPs. He just didn't seem to take to the idea or think it was something Columbia would want to do. It's a shame, might be a real treasure. Edited September 26, 2016 by jazzbo misspelling Quote
