CHUCK BERRY TO RELEASE FIRST NEW ALBUM IN MORE THAN 35 YEARS

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Ninety-year-old rock 'n' roll legend Chuck Berry is set to release his first new studio album in more than 35 years.

...

Jimmy Marsala, a bassist in Berry's longtime band, suggests the new album took so long to come together because Berry wanted to make sure it lived up to everyone's expectations. His last studio album was "Rock It" in 1979.

Marsala said Berry - whose writing credits include "Roll Over Beethoven," and "Johnny B. Goode" - started working on the new album as soon as "Rock It" was completed.

"He was constantly working on stuff all the time, on airplanes, writing lyrics down, always coming up with new ideas - 'Let's try this, let's try that,'" Marsala said.

this marsala guy sounds like an excellent spokesman.

That Times article mentions Jerry Lee Lewis...I saw Lewis on Colbert a few months ago, and he was really old-y, maybe half deaf, maybe half senile, definitely in a world of his own. But within that world, he was obviously king and had no intention of every being anything else. It was kind of painful to listen to, but thoroughly mesmerizing to watch with the sound on.

Here's hoping that Chuck Berry fares at least every bit as well with this new record.
