rostasi Posted December 4, 2016 Report Posted December 4, 2016 (edited) Thanks for this. He's one of those young composers whose name shows up on composer sites I visit as well as composer-based emails I get, but I'd yet to hear any of his work. I'll see, sometimes, his "unusual" combinations of instruments that spark my interest, but that's usually as far as it goes. I've been meaning to mention to you a label, NEOS, that I've really loved for a quite a few years now that really highlights some very good younger, "new-crop" composers and performers that you might find interesting in varying degrees. I don't know how accessible the music is thru Spotify, Pandora, or whatever you use for streaming, but you might be able to explore some works thru their website. It is one of those labels that, with enough money, I'd be a near completist. Edited December 4, 2016 by rostasi Quote
JSngry Posted December 4, 2016 Author Report Posted December 4, 2016 Somebody else has mentioned Neos to me. Where there's smoke... I dig how this piece overtly engages elements of the Max Roach solo drum techniques and timbres as known quantities/pre-existing conditions/etc, grist for the compositional mill...nice to know that people were paying attention, assuming that they were. rostasi Posted December 4, 2016 Report Posted December 4, 2016 Over here is a favorite place to pick up NEOS product at a fair price and get to listen to excerpts as well. Right now, there appears to be over 250 titles in stock. Certain works could be heard thru YouTube. Quote
JSngry Posted December 4, 2016 Author Report Posted December 4, 2016 Checking out Ted Hearne on YouTube...a lot of it seems to be "clever" but some of it has some good meat. Quote
xybert Posted December 4, 2016 Report Posted December 4, 2016 There are probably other touchstones but it reminded me a lot of Fantomas. Quote
