Alex North's A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) is arguably the first U.S. film to use jazz elements in its score. I am obsessed with this track titled "Blanche and Mitch."  The varsouvienne that begins playing at the 1:53 mark is an early sign of Blanche's unravelling.
