  • No, not that this song/record exists, no surprises there.
  • No, not that the song later got repurposed by Barris, with the able/deft help of Milton DeLugg. Intereswting as trivia, but not really WTF-able.
  • No, not that badass drumming pocket, Hey.
  • But that chord? WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!

Gotta be secret CIA code!

I know that Swan was a Philly-based label, but might this have been recorded in LA? sounds like Earl Palmer on drums? Who was doing sessions in Philly at the time who had a pocket like that? Same for the bassist. IN there!

Ultimately, though - that chord? WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!

The tune is in Eb.  It sounds like they are going from a Fm7 to a Bm7(?!?), and maybe then to an E7?  There are some shifting harmonies resulting from the lines played by the various instruments.  But it is pretty bizarre.

I need to listen on something better than laptop speakers.

There's a conflict between bassline and saxes. It is damn near cosmic, and would still be even if that conflict was not there. To hear this after more than half a century of The Newlywed Game is...phase-shifting, to put it mildly.

I still say it's a CIA code (and maybe nobody really remembers that utterly amazing Chuck Barris autobiography...or the arguably equally amazing Chuck Barris himself...).
