gvopedz Posted February 15, 2022 Report Posted February 15, 2022 "On December 13, 1968, the military introduced Institutional Order No. 5, which shut down Congress and authorized the government to detain and torture anyone it considered subversive of the public order. Veloso, who was then twenty-six, was writing songs such as “É Proibido Proibir” (“It’s Prohibited to Prohibit”), with his leftist detractors in mind. He had no idea that he was the subject of a thick government file, dating to 1966, with a list of his putative crimes, such as attending protests and cultural events." https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2022/02/14/how-caetano-veloso-revolutionized-brazils-sound-and-spirit Quote

I saw Caetano live about 15 years ago. He was with young band with electric guitars and drums. Then, about halfway through the concert, they leave the stage, Caetano grabs a nylon string guitar, sits down, and sings and plays "Ho-Ba-La-La" solo. He brought the house down. Quote
