JamesAHarrod Posted March 19, 2023 Report Posted March 19, 2023 The Advance Record Releases column in the September 21, 1946, edition of The Billboard listed a forthcoming release on Sarco Records: Vivien Garry-George Handy, "Rip Van Winkle" and "Stick Around" - Sarco 104. Sarco released three 78 singles earlier with Garry/Handy that Don Schlitten reissued in the 1970s on Onyx 212. I asked Schlitten if he was aware of the this fourth release, and he had never seen or heard of it. I wondered if any esoteric 78 collectors on the list have seen this release? I write about the label in my latest post: https://jazzresearch.com/sarco-studio-artists-recorders/ Jim Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted March 21, 2023 Report Posted March 21, 2023 I've spun the "Rip Van Winkle" recording by Boyd Raeburn relatively often recently (the "Jewells" CD by Raeburn is currently in the stack of CDs to feed my car player) but I've never heard of (let alone heard) a Vivian Gary recording of that tune either, of course. But THANKS and hats off for your post on the Sarco label. No stone unturned and certainly the definite word on the subject, as usual ... đ Quote
Peter Friedman Posted March 21, 2023 Report Posted March 21, 2023 There is also a tune on this album titled "Rip Van Winkle" Â with the composer listed as Jon Mayer. Quote
jazztrain Posted March 21, 2023 Report Posted March 21, 2023 A real âsleeperâ I imagine. Sorry, couldnât resist!  đ I hope it turns up. Quote
