Hi all! I wrote (in Italian) a guide to jazz records released by American artists in the 50s and 60s. I "published" this amateur work for free by making it available on the site www.4969.it as a pdf document. Although it may seem like a huge job, it is actually just a draft: I am going to correct and integrate it during 2025. I am sharing the news because I (kindly) need readers who can help me find errors and inaccuracies. Reading italian, I’m sorry, will be useful! So, any advice will always be welcome. My email is danilo (at) 4969.it thank you!

About 1.800 records by American musicians (the book is 800 pages). No European musicians. I’m still adding new record reviews (every month I publish a new draft).

After having completed the first edition in Italian (I hope the next one will arrive in 2026), I am translating (with great difficulty) the book into English. Fortunately, the Internet offers many resources to help me with this task! For the moment, I have only drafted the first two years (1949 and 1950). More than ever, I ask for collaboration and help. Buon jazz!

Danilio, are you aware of the massive 5 Volume series published (last year IIRC) in Italian only by Antonio Lanza (italian academic & jazz fan) called "Californian Jazz, 1951-1960" (Italian Publishers only)

I convinced an Italian Veterinary colleague here in Brisbane (Australia) to attempt a translation (she was keen to try & completed volume 1) & has had Amazon publish the first volume (english version) - she brought me back the entire (Italian) set on a recent holiday to her home country earlier this year

It's on my to-read list! I'm currently reading "History of Jazz" by Ted Gioia (simply wonderful!), which I use to update all my entries. If I could recommend another excellent Italian book (written by Giorgio Lombardi, the guy who introduced concerts at the jazz club in Genoa, my hometown), it's "New Orleans Chicago New York," a magnificent history of the origins of jazz. Thanks for the recommendation, I really appreciated it. ciao!
