miles65 Posted October 20 Report Posted October 20 Today I received an e-mail announcing a special AGM from DESS to discuss dissolution of DESS. Reason being the dwindling number of members. 136 at time of writing. The rising cost of producing the DESS bulletin. The rising age of those in charge and the failure to attract younger members. The bylaws stipulate that the decision of the dissolution must be taken at two consecutive AGM's. The first will be 24 November 2025 and the second no later than 31 March 2026. A sad but inevitable decision. I'll be voting for dissolution not because I want it to end but because it is the only reasonable thing to do. The mail ends with quoting a Duke Ellington song “If you were in my place, what would you do?” Quote
hopkins Posted 9 hours ago Report Posted 9 hours ago Would it not make sense for all these national “societies” to pool their resources under one roof - an international Ellington society? Quote

I always had the same thoughts: Washington DC, Sweden, UK, Toronto, Southern California… why not merging all of them in one international EKE society? Nowadays, communications across different states/countries/continents are easy… In any case, I perfectly understand the reasons behind this proposed decision at the DESS AGM… Sad but true… Quote
