I had this on an old cutout RCA/Camden budget label issue - it's only American appearance as far as I know - before including it in a group of guitar rarities I traded for rent back in the day. It's got kind a Brazillian "au go-go" feel to it, and Kessel plays his Azzoff (always my favorite ax of his ;) ).

Barney Kessel -- Kessel's Kit (aka Guitarra) . . . CD . . . $22.99

RCA Brazil (Japan), 1970 Condition: New Copy

One of Barney Kessel's greatest albums ever -- a rare Italian-only session that has a sparkly Brazilian groove! The record was recorded in Rome in 1970, and it's got Kessel's guitar fronting a combo with organ and some very tight percussion, all dancing around in a fast samba mode that's different from virtually anything else he ever recorded. There's loads of original tracks on the set -- like "Freeway", "Lison", "BJ's Samba", and "On the Riviera" -- and the whole thing has a breezy dancing feel that's really wonderful! (Recommended by Musica Loco Mundo!)

A bit short on playing time as I recall (under 45 minutes, easily), and a bit pricey as per the Japanese import thing, but for true Kesselheads, it'll be a "must have".

A look at my database reveals that I got my copy (same Japanese issue) in October of 2001 from.... the filthy bastards. I was buying so much stuff from them, I though about just having them place my orders for me. "Jim, we just got in a Japanese CD issue of Barney Kessel's GUITARRA. We're going to charge your on-file credit card, and send your package by priority mail. You'll get it on Tuesday. Thank you, the staff at Dusty Groove."

"Okay, thanks". :mellow::huh::mellow:

"Brazilian Au Go Go"... I like it! :lol: I gotta get me one of those Azzoffs... :(;)

Antonello Vannucchi (org), Carlo Pes (? not credited- 2nd guitar), Giovanni Tommasco (B ), Enzo Restuccia (d). They're all Scandinavian. :mellow: ... :P

Yeah, and I don't know that the organ is a B-3 either. Sounds like it might actually be a Farfisa or Vox or something. It's a really "groovy" sound, if you know what I mean, perfect for a Mediterranian pool party with only beautiful cokeheads allowed (and I mean that as a compliment). I didn't really appreciate the sound of it at first, but the more I grew musically, the more I did.

Then I ended up homeless & jobless and moved in w/a guitar player for a few months. This one, the Oscar Moore Tampa Lp, and a few other choice items were my show of appreciation. I wouldn't mind getting another copy, but the disparity between a $3 Camden Lp and a $23 Japanese CD is a bit much for me to swallow right now.

Hell, for the $20 difference, I could be a beautiful cokehead, if only for a few hours.
